www.lobosonda.comThe majority of today ? s whale watching ( around 70-80 % ) is still concentrated on the big whales.
Grey whales in the Pacific, blue whales in the North Atlantic, right whales off South Africa or humpback whales off the Australian coast ? these giants of the sea still fascinate humans in a very special way.
But the observation of smaller whales and dolphins has been growing significantly during the past years.

These days whales are occasionally spotted again off the Walvis Bay coast – especially Humpback and Southern Right whales which come to the area between July and November to calve and to mate.
Sometimes a whale beaches and causes great excitement.
www.gondwana-collection.comBy the twentieth century the namesake of the harbour town had been eradicated from Namibian waters.
In the years between 1788 and 1803 alone, whalers visiting the Namibian coast are believed to have killed at least 3,700 Southern Right Whales, depleting the population.
Although the history of whaling in the nineteenth century hasn’t been well documented, French whalers are known to have visited the Walvis waters in the first half of the century.
